the Patriots and Ladies Auxilliary of the Northwest LA Chapter 351 paid tribute to Blake Johnson a young Marine while on his
second tour in Iraq received a gunshot wound to his left thigh and the round came to rest in the L4-L5 region in his back
leaving him paralized from the waist down. He was medivaced to Germany for many surgeries then on the
the States for more. With the help of Fred Fuentes MOPH National Service Officer he was granted 100% disabled. Blakes wife
LeAnn had asked Fred if he could assist her in acquiring a special Bow for Blake who is an avid outdoor hunter with Bow and
Arrows. Fred contacted our Chapter to see what could be done to make this request come through. Sgt Derrick Smith, US Army
our past Chapter Commander, who is also and avid Bow Hunter took the lead in making this happen. Between the Chapter and donations
from the Biggs Family, whose Father now deceased was a member of 351 a shopping trip was made to the Academy Sports and we
found what he needed. Keith Fontenot from the VAMC took the lead in getting quarters for the Blakes at Barksdale AFB. Sgt
Smith's mother donated funds for purchase of food and gas on their trip. John Andrew Prime covered the event for the Shreveport
Times and Sandra Franks. Public Affairs Officer Overtton Brooks VA Medical Center joined in to cover the story with photos. Department Commander Richard
Garner presented Blake with the Louisiana Honor Medal on behalf of Governor Jindal, and the Department of Louisiana MOPH.
