2010 East Coast Drill Instructor Reunion

THIS PAST WEEK I (KEN BOURGEOIS) WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO ATTEND THE 2010 EAST COAST DRILL INSTRUCTOR REUNION HELD AT THE MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT, PARRIS ISLAND, SC.


THERE WAS IN EXCESS OF 300 FORMER DRILL INSTRUCTOR'S AND THEIR BRIDES IN ATTENDANCE.  THE OLDEST FROM THE WWII ERA WAS 92 YEARS OLD AND STILL KICKING.


WE WERE ABLE TO OBSERVE MORNING COLORS IN FRONT OF THE DEPOT HEADQUARTERS AND BE RECOGNIZED BY THE CHIEF OF STAFF MCRD ALONG WITH EDUCATORS FROM BATON ROUGE, LA AND SEVERAL OTHER GROUPS IN ADDITION TO THE FAMILIES OF GRADUATING RECRUITS.  LOTS OF FOLKS IN ATTENDANCE AS IT WAS A DOUBLE GRADATION FROM COMPANY H, 2ND RECRUIT TRAINING BATTAION AND COMPANY N, 4TH RECRUIT TRAINING BATTALION.  THE REVIEWING OFFICERS WERE DEPOT SGTMAJOR YAGLE AND SGTMAJOR KEN MILLER, PRESIDENT, EAST COAST DRILL INSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION.  I HAVE INCLUDED PICTURES OF THE BAND, GRADUATING RECRUITS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND PICTURES OF THE MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR FALLEN DRILL INSTRUCTORS.  THERE IS ALSO INCLUDED SOME PHOTO'S OF THE MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEART MONUMENT NEXT TO THE DRILL INSTRUCTOR MONUMENT.  THE WEATHER WAS BEAUTIFUL AND THE SAND FLEAS BEHAVED THEMSELVES.  GREAT TIME WAS HAD AT THE ANNUAL PICNIC AT ELLIOTS BEACH AND THE SATURDAY NIGHT FUNCTION IN THE LYCEUM.  OUR GUEST SPEAKER THAT EVENING WAS COLONEL GRABOSKI, CHIEF OF STAFF FOR THE EAST COAST RECRUITING AREA.  HE WAS BORN AT BARKSDALE AFB HERE IN SHREVEPORT AND HIS DAD WAS IN THE AIR FORCE. WE RECEIVED AN UPDATE FROM THE CHIEF DRILL INSTRUCTOR 1STSGT RAFEAL RODRIGUEZ AND HIS BOSS ON THE CURRENT PROGRAMS BEING TAUGHT TO OUR NEW DRILL INSTRUCTORS AND THE OFFICERS ASSIGNED TO SUPERVISE THEM. WE ALSO WERE BRIEFED BY THE RECRUIT TRAINING REGIMENT COMMANDING OFFICER, ERIC M. MELINGER, COLONEL, USMC. A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL.
