St. Tammany Parish Library
Flag Dedication
On June 25, 2009,
Voyageurs Militaire of St. Tammany’s Voiture 224 of the 40/8 conducted a flag ceremony at the St. Tammany Parish Library
in Covington in order to replace the worn National Flag that had served the Library
well for several years.
The worn Flag was ceremoniously
lowered to the tune of “To The Colors”, folded according to the National Flag Code and presented back to the Library staff for proper disposal.
The new banner was unfolded and hoisted up the standard to the “National Anthem” while all those present delivered
the proper hand salute.
Participating in the ceremony
was V224 Chef de Gare (Commander) Terry Sharp, Garde de la Porte (Sgt-at-Arms) Mike Peats, Correspondent (Adjutant) Roy Kellum,
Voyageurs Militaire Stacy Miller, Al Baron, Danny McArthur.
The 40/8, founded in 1920,
is an independent veterans organization and serves as an honor society of men and women who have honorably served their country
in the Armed Forces of the United States. The organization
draws much of its lexicon and canon from the WW I French Troop Trains and the
era of service. Organizational Officers and members derive their titles, terminologies, and ceremonies from the French Language.
The organization maintains
a strong commitment to the American way of life. Americanism projects, Flag respect, Constitutional awareness, Law and Order
and the proven willingness to defend these principles, evident in the day-to-day activities of the members of the society.
